personality/background: first impressions aren't exactly beck's strongest point. he can come across as insanely smug and sarcastic and he isn't exactly the warmest person in a room and has a habit of swearing like a sailor along with never knowing when to shut his mouth. he has shielded himself from most feelings and seems very careless about his life and a majority of the people in it, even. although, with the small group of people he does allow in his life, he treats them as if they were family and would do absolutely anything for them. beckett grew up bouncing around from town to town because his father was in the military. being more strict than most, his father often forced beck to ''man up'' and conceal his emotions from a young age. beck has learned to live with this by shielding himself from anyone who tries to break down the protective emotional barrier he has set around himself. whether that is acting unbothered or careless or even being slightly rude -- it doesn't matter to him. he may often seem cold and uninterested and has removed himself from his family and only really talks to his mother, and that is on very rare occasions. a part of him had always felt betrayed by her considering she had done nothing to help beck when his father took out his emotional pain and instability on him as a child. his biggest fear is being seen as weak so beck will do everything to make himself seem like this soulless, distant person at all costs.
